Standard Work Development

Without standard work, every improvement is temporary. Period.

Capture the best known way to do the work — and create the foundation for every future improvement.

The real story

Standard work isn't bureaucracy — it's the floor your improvement team builds on. Every gain you make sticks because the standard captures it. Every problem becomes visible the moment the standard isn't followed.

What we did
Two weeks to develop, validate, and train standard work with visual job aids at the point of use.
The result
Process variation dropped 34%. Onboarding time for new operators cut in half. Audit compliance held above 95%.

Same workshop, digital environment

What this looks like in a corporate / digital team

The exact same methodology — applied to software, SaaS, IT, marketing, or professional-services workflows. Anonymized snapshot from a recent engagement.

Digital exampleMarketing Ops Team — Campaign Launch Process
The challenge
Three campaign managers ran the same launch process three different ways. Briefs, assets, UTMs, and QA all drifted — and analytics fired late on every launch.
What we did
Two weeks to draft, validate, and train standard work for campaign launches with visual job aids embedded directly in Asana templates tied to HubSpot.
The result
Launch defects (broken links, missing UTMs, late tracking) dropped 71%. New marketing hires hit full productivity in 3 weeks instead of 8.

Headline outcome

−71% launch defects

Same DMAIC, RCA, mapping, and standard-work tools — applied to digital workflows like Jira, Salesforce, HubSpot, GitHub, Asana, and Notion.

Annualized savings

~$420K / yr

5 weeks of recovered ramp × ~6 new hires/yr at marketing fully-loaded cost, plus avoided rework on ~40 launches/yr (broken UTMs, missed tracking, recovery campaigns).

Why this workshop matters

Without standard work, every improvement is temporary. Standard work locks in the gain, makes problems visible immediately, and gives every employee a fair, repeatable way to succeed.

What your team walks away with

  • Documented standard work for target processes
  • Visual job aids and training materials
  • A clear training and audit cadence
  • Reduced variation and faster onboarding

Common questions

Everything you'd ask before booking

Specific to Standard Work Development — scheduling, format, prerequisites, and what to expect.

  • No prior certification is required. Standard Work Development is built so anyone in the room — from frontline operators to senior leaders — can contribute on day one. We meet your team at their current level and build from there.

  • Standard duration is 1–2 days per process. Schedules are flexible — full days, half-days, or split across weeks to fit your operations. We finalize the cadence with your sponsor before booking so it works around real production and staffing constraints.

  • Yes — delivery is on-site at the work. Onsite is best when the work is physical or floor-walks add value. Remote works well for office, knowledge, and multi-site teams. Hybrid (a facilitator onsite plus remote breakouts) is increasingly common for distributed organizations.

  • Frontline supervisors, Process owners, Training leaders get the most out of it. We strongly recommend including an executive sponsor for the kickoff and close-out — alignment at that level is what turns workshop output into real change.

  • Most teams identify quick wins during the workshop itself and deliver documented standard work for target processes within 30–90 days. Larger structural improvements typically land within one to two quarters once the control plan is in place.

  • Yes. Every engagement starts with a short scoping call to tailor examples, exercises, and templates to your industry, your terminology, and the specific processes you want to improve. Generic case studies don't make it into the room.

  • Facilitation by a Master Black Belt, all materials and templates, a documented output (current-state map, charter, A3, or control plan depending on the workshop), and a 30/60/90-day follow-through plan. We can also bundle coaching for project leaders if you want execution support.

  • Typical cohorts run 8–20 people for hands-on workshops and up to 30 for training-style sessions. Smaller groups go deeper; larger groups build wider capability. We'll recommend a size based on your goal during the consultation.
